14 Thoughts All Students Who Work And Can't Go Home Over Break Have

After the last stressful weeks of school, many college students want to go home. I mean who wouldn’t! You get to do free laundry, eat warm home-cooked food and enjoy the company of your friends and family. It’s a nice way to end the year. Unfortunately, not everyone can experience that.

Some students have jobs out in their college towns, which doesn’t really give them much time to go home and enjoy the well deserved time off. Some students may have very flexible jobs that will allow them to go home for the full month of winter break but not many have that. Those who don’t go home might go through a couple emotions, both good and bad. Some might go crazy and for some, it might not phase them. Still, I want to go home and I can’t.

1. Can I sleep all day?

At first, it might seem pretty nice. You don’t have to go home and barely make it through the awkward questions conversation that family members might ask you on the daily. You get to stay home and relax.

2. Do I have to wear pants?

You might be able to relax to the full max. Your roommates might have gone home so you know what that means? You don’t have to wear pants.

3. I'm bored.

After a while, you might get bored of working every day. You do the same thing over and over again. You just get tired of customers yelling at you.

4. Snapchat is my life.

You slowly start missing your family and friends and the only form of communication with them is either through texts or Snapchat.

5. I'm hungry.

You start to run out of food and only survive off the scraps that are left in the refrigerator.

6. Customers are annoying.

The days grow long and boring. You’re sick of customers and want to go home where it’s nice and safe.

7. I'm going to die.

You start to get paranoid that burglars will break into your apartment and kill you. You start to lock every door and looking around every corner.

8. People are psychopaths.

Christmas is right around the corner but you can’t enjoy it because of the extended holiday hours you have at work. It’s not your fault that everyone waits to buy their gifts at the last minute.

9. I'm super talented.

You start to picking up on different hobbies like sewing or learning a language.

10. I'm not talented.

You quit that after getting frustrating within the day.

11. Shia is my spirit animal.

You start to plan all the cool things you will be doing in the next year. You set goals and you have a purpose again.

12. I have survived.

You see the light at the end of the tunnel. Break is almost over and you will be able to talk to normal people again.

13. Did my roommate miss me?

The second your roommate enters through the door you tell them about everything you’ve done and seen over break. You look like a lost puppy who found their home again.

14. Everyone is annoying but it's home.

Students all come back and you feel everything getting back normal. The downstairs neighbors play their music too loud and the sorority girls next to you are yelling but it feels like home.

You still miss home but at least you don’t feel alone anymore. It’s a new dawn and you feel the accomplishments coming in for the new year. It’s going to be great!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
