To Those Who Don't Feel Enough,
I will admit it. Feeling enough is something I internally struggle with on a daily basis. For a long time, I didn't even realize this because it disguises itself in different ways, for example: when I don't feel satisfied about what I've accomplished, when I worry that I'm not doing an assignment right, or even when I find myself extremely quiet during a conversation because I don't feel I have anything to add to it.
I know I'm not alone in this. If you feel this way, please know you're not alone either. It's harder for us to speak up sometimes because we feel restricted by this feeling. But something I've realized is that this feeling, this feeling of "not being enough," is poison and is slowly draining us into feeling we don't matter.
Unless we have someone in our lives telling us that "yes, you do matter" and "yes, you are enough," it's easy to keep drinking in this poison of a feeling. I'm here to be that person for you. If you have someone, fabulous, I'm also here for you, and I encourage you to be that person for someone else.
Here are 8 quotes you (and I) need to hear right now.
1. Shaggy, "Scooby-Doo"
Thanks, Shaggy. I mean it's not the most romantic way to phrase it, but then again, who wouldn't want to be compared to the beauty of pizza?
2. Raven, "That's So Raven!"
Oh Lordy! I remember watching this episode when it came out. It's still relevant today and will likely always will be. Beauty doesn't have a size or shape requirement.
3. Emma, "Bride Wars"
Anne hit the nail on the head, well the writers did, but she delivered this line in a way that's still with me today. In a previous article of mine, I said I'm choosing human over being perfect.
4. Aibileen Clark, "The Help"
I don't think this quote needs any explaining on my part; it speaks for itself.
5. Meredith, "Grey's Anatomy"
How could I not quote Grey's Anatomy at least once. Exactly right, Meredith. Sometimes we spend so much time in the dark that we forget we are the sun.
6. Burt Hummel, "Glee"
In other words, take care of yourself not just because it's important, but also because you matter to your friends, your family, your significant other.
7. Dr. Sean Maguire, "Good Will Hunting"
You needed to hear this. Why? Because sometimes we go through hard times, it reveals to us what we are truly capable of and how strong we actually are.
8. Dory, "Finding Nemo"
It's not easy trying to undo years of believing that you aren't enough; you're going to trip up and fall back on this feeling, and that's okay. But as Dory says, "just keep swimming," just keep fighting to believe you are enough, because you are.
Sincerely,
Someone who knows
