It's about breaking a cycle of complacency

Kirk Cameron (Facebook)

The other day I scrolled through my Facebook feed and noticed something out of the norm. Sean Hannity posted a selfie with a sign that read "#thischristianvotes." I listen to his program from time to time while running afternoon errands, and it doesn't surprise me that he is a believer, but his radio program is not a religious one. Upon reading the blurb I realized that he had accepted a challenge from Kirk Cameron.

So I checked out Kirk Cameron's page. Indeed he had challenged Sean Hannity, his sister Candace Cameron Buree, and the Robertson Family. Candace challenged Tia and Tamara Mowry (Wow, that takes me back the 90s!) and Tim Tebow.

Initially I want to react with the thought, "Of course Christians vote, right?" Maybe. That is the whole point.

The truth is, voter turnout among Christians was on the low side the last few elections; in particular the election between Obama and Romney. If you google "Christian voter turnout in 2012" it's pretty telling. Although the statistics you'll find in a web search are varied, it's pretty clear that a large number of evangelicals didn't register to vote and many of the ones who did register didn't vote.

Google "Christian voting" and you'll get an idea why this complacency may have occurred. Articles and opinion pieces abound with sentiments such as, "Should Christians vote the lesser of two evils?", "Why voting for Trump is a morally good decision," http://www.charismanews.com/opinion/60996-to-those-christians-who-can-t-vote-for-trump-or-clinton etc. People have come to many different conclusions as to what the right thing to do is.

Although so many evangelicals have come to different conclusions on how to best use their vote to honor God and country, they are principled moral voices that should not be silent. How different would Elections look if more Christians were going to the polls? How would the last four years have gone If four million hadn't have stayed home? Are there really that many Christians who are so discouraged by politics that they've become complacent or is this a huge mistake?

Either way, I think it's worth this last push to get every moral, principled person to the polls as possible. We could make a difference. #thischristianvotes

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
