Whether it was your decision or your parents' decision for you to move out of your home, there is one thing you feel that is the same regardless: empty. The void you feel when you have to forcefully leave everything behind.

You have to say farewell to the bed you've always slept in, the loved ones you deeply care about, the friends you've met, and even your furry friends. Maybe you packed your things to go out into a big city or to a place not many are familiar with in order to get done what it is that needs to be done. Whether that is school, a new job, a better life.

Your journey begins somewhat fine, but then as the days progress you begin to question if you made the correct decision. You start to look at old pictures, you attempt to adjust to your new surroundings and it does not feel familiar because it is not home.

You contact old friends and relatives just to hear their voice and let that be your home at the moment. You have your days where you feel like you're carrying the world in your hands and your other days where it seems like it's crashing down on you.

Holidays may be a little different because now you're not at the dinner table surrounded by your family, instead, you have a small Christmas tree in the corner or a dimly lit menorah that can cheer you up just a little bit.

You may wonder why you cannot have everything your way, but then you realize the tough process was only making you tougher. It was meant to build you into the person you were destined to be, that you can face anything in life, you can meet new people, create new memories.

This is all part of growing.

You may not have your loved ones with you, but be aware that even if they're not as close as you want them to be, they're cheering you on. If they're not, you can be sure that you will be damn proud of what you've faced later down the line.

The next time you feel like you cannot go on anymore, remember why you started in the first place. If you can get through this part of your life, you're guaranteed to overcome anything that life throws at you. You learn to be alone and to love it. You learn new aspects of yourself and you're faced with situations that test your persistence.

PS: Flowers bloom when they're rooted in the dirt.

You can get through this.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
