We learn from failure, not from success.

Why You Shouldn't Compare Your Life To Other People's Social Media Posts

I think it is safe to say that we have all had those days where we are minding our own business and having a good day with all smiles and laughter and then life decides to punch you right in the face with some minor inconvenience leaving us thinking "why me?" or "this would only happen to me."

Well, fear not my friends, because that is all about being a human being, so you are definitely not alone. Let me just say that no one's life is as perfect as it may seem based on their Instagram feed. It is so easy for us to sit back and scroll through social media and compare ourselves to beautiful people who are successful and then feel bad about ourselves because we are not exactly like them.

But it is important to remember that they are people too, just like me and you. They may be a little bit more successful or famous, but at the end of the day, they are still human beings and that will never change. Needless to say, they make mistakes and fail like everyone else in the world.

One of my favorite quotes by Winston Churchill says "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts" and I think it fits very well with this topic. Essentially, just because today you may be having a bad day and have screwed up does not mean that you will never be successful. You just have to learn to pick yourself back up and keep going.

At the end of the day, those perfect and successful people you see on Instagram screw up and have their own flaws too. Of course, they aren’t going to post a picture when they are upset or going through a rough time because who wants to see that? People only post the good and happy times and that is only a fraction of what their life is really like. You have no idea what is happening on the other side of their phone screen.

Everyone has good days, everyone has bad days, and everyone fails. That is just the way life works. But, if you are constantly comparing yourself and your entire life to others, you will never be satisfied. Just because you screw up and feel like a failure sometimes does not mean that you will never be successful or are less of a person. You just have to learn to accept what happens to you and move on, and you will come out on top of the world if you continue to believe in yourself.

Your mistakes do not define you and it only makes you human. Imagine your life being perfect all the time. You wouldn't be the same person you are today because you wouldn't have learned from any mistakes or failures. Your life is perfect simply by you being imperfect. Embrace it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
