This is for the girls

"We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, you can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful... We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This is for the Girls

This is for the girls that stay up at night crying.

The ones that yearn for someone to love them.

This is for the girls that have never felt good enough.

The ones wanting to be anyone but themselves.

For the girls hiding themselves behind make up.

For the ones that have been lied to and abused.

The ones cutting themselves and wishing that they were gone because they think the world would be better off without them.

This is for the girls that have ended friendships because of a guy.

This is for the girls who lied to their mom for him.

Who told their dad they didn't know where that bruise came from.

For the girls that have dreams, but think they can’t accomplish them.

This is for the girls that pretend to be someone else just to fit in.

The ones that hide in the bathrooms in fear of getting beat up

For the girls that won’t eat because they’ve been called fat.

This for the girls that feel like they have to be mean to hide their own insecurities.

For the ones that have been heartbroken or accidental heart breakers, and think that they’ll never get another chance.

The ones that have been called a slut when it was just one time.

This is for the girls that feel misunderstood.

For the ones that are called a freak for being themselves.

The girls that are just trying to make it in life.

For the ones that have to laugh to keep from crying.

This is for the girls that never get invited anywhere on the weekends.

For the ones who feel like they need to get with all the guys to prove a point.

And finally, this is for the girls that feel useless.

The ones who feel like they are nothing and have more bad days than good.

The ones that hate themselves more and more each day.

For the girls that just need to be told that everything’s going to be ok.

THIS is for the girls- you are phenomenal, strong, stunning and beautiful and don't ever let anyone make you feel otherwise.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
