We all live busy lives. We are constantly on the go, we are constantly behind, and we are constantly waiting. We wait on rides, we wait on people, we wait on things to change, and we wait on life to move forward. In this very busy lives we live, we forget one important thing. This life is about you.
Sometimes we let others take over our lives. They take our thinking away from us, they take our attention away from us, and we let them take our lives. And sometimes we don't even mean to let it get this far. It just happens. We just slowly become less and less of ourselves.
And we stay there for a while. We become so comfortable with someone else controlling our lives. Then, something terrible happens. We are thrown back into the cruel world of reality. We are left there to fix it all ourselves.
Broken-hearted and lost, we are on our own again. Sometimes it takes a day, or a week, or a few months, or even a lifetime. But we always start to remember what our lives were like before it wasn't ours anymore. I like to dance in the shower. I like to go for walks with my friends. I like to drive around aimlessly. And I like to pretend everything is okay, even when it isn't. But I forgot all of these things when I was living in a life that wasn't mine anymore.
The only person who is going to give you everything you want in life is you and only you.
And I promise you now, one day you're going to wake up, and roll over, and you're going to hop in the shower. And while you're in this shower, you're going to start dancing. At first it's going to happen really slow, and it's going to feel weird and awkward. But I promise you, it's going to be the best dance of your entire life. And the song is going to end, and the only thing that's going to be in your head is the question: "Why did I ever stop dancing in the first place?"
So often in this world, our lives are made to be someone else's. Maybe it's your boss, or your parents, or your best friend, or your kids, or your husband, or your college professor, or the guy laying next to you at night. Someone is going to take your life as their own. And it hurts when you get it back. It breaks you down. But it breaks you down so that you can build yourself back up yourself.
Our lives are our lives for a reason. Every decision you make is for a reason, just as every traffic stop you sit in is for a reason, just as every smile you give on the street is for a reason. Nothing is just chance. Not even reading this article. That's something to really think about.
