The OU women’s volleyball team remained undefeated in the Big 12 conference with a win on the road at West
Virginia on Wednesday night. The first two sets of the game went
to OU, with scores of 25-17 and 25-12, before WVU forced the third match, with
25-20. The Sooners finished the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
Oklahoma hit better than .350 in all
three of the sets that they dominated. They out hit the Mountaineers .308 to
.067 and won in the fourth set, by hitting .500.
Redshirt sophomore, Madison Ward, led
the Sooners with an impressive 16 kills for the game, and made just one error
for a .359 attack rate. She also added in seven digs and averaged 4.33 kills
per set. Ward’s contribution to the team has made her the stand out player for
many of the games, and she has totaled 52 kills in the last three matches. In Big 12 play, Ward is hitting .414 and
averaging 4.33 kills per set that she has played in.
Juniors, Julia Doyle and Taylor
Migliazzo, also helped the Sooners find victory over WVU. Doyle handed out 40
assists, including 13 in the first set. She totaled 12 digs for her fourth
double-double of the season. Migliazzo, the libero for the Sooners, led on the
defensive side of the team, with 13 digs. Freshman, Marion Hazelwood, also aided
the Sooners with five kills and five blocks.
This win over West Virginia marked
the 100th for head coach, Santiago Restrepo, in Big 12 play. It was
also the second match out of six, that the Sooners will have this season.
Overall, the Sooners are now 12-4 and 3-0
in league play.
The Sooners take on Texas Tech and
Baylor in the next week, and then are back out on the road to continue their
chase to be this year's Big 12 champions.
