Do it.
It will seem scary to sign up to go halfway around the world while everyone you know stays home. It will make your wallet ache to pay the fees, but so does a semester at home. It will be lonely, the first night when you don't know anyone and everyone is trying to make connections that aren't there yet. It will be exhausting.
Do it to make mistakes.
You'll get on the wrong train coming home and laugh about it the next night. You'll be tired from class and trying to still enjoy the new culture, but it will be exhilarating. You'll find your group of like-minded people and thank God you all awkwardly reached out on the first day. You'll make memories to last a lifetime.
Do it to experience.
When you go, see the sites. Don't think that you're too good for touristy photos. Laugh at yourself trying to order new food and butchering the pronunciation. Eat a bacon cheeseburger when you're homesick. Talk about your siblings with your friends and plan road trips to see each other when the trip ends. Try to take touristy photos holding monuments and fail miserably. Enjoy your morning rides to classes.
Do it to learn.
In the classroom, in the city, sitting in a restaurant. Try to be quiet and not the loud annoying Americans. End up laughing so hard you get a few dirty looks anyways. Cheer along to the game on TV you have no interest in. Read the descriptions at art museums.
Do it to grow.
Do it for yourself. Prove that you can step out of your comfort zone and come out better for it. Traveling is never wasted. Make memories you won't realize are memories until their gone. Broaden your horizons.
