When you start college, you think you're super cool when you're from out of state...but by your senior year, you're sick of hearing "woah," and "wow, that must be hard."
So here are five things you're probably sick of hearing by your senior year of college when you're from out of state.
1. You say: “I’m from _____” and they say “Wow, that’s far.”
Yes, I am aware that my home state is far away. Yes, I am aware that I am in a different state. Yes, I am aware of everything you’re about to say is related to how you could never be so far away from home.
2. “Are you from (Big City One) or (Big City Two)?
Neither. Just like your home state, my home state is made up of many cities! Wow, it’s almost like every state is like that.
It’s always easier to just say that you’re two hours south, or four hours east of either “Big City One," or "Big City Two”.
3. “How do you get home?”
Contrary to popular belief, I do not just teleport home. I normally take a plane or train or car…or walk if I have no other way. (Anyone else get that Plain White T’s reference?)
4. “Wow, you must miss your family”
Yes. Yes I do.
5. “Do you have ___ there? What do you mean you don’t have ___ there?”
Don’t ostracize me for not knowing what a Stewart’s is. Is it even sanitary to get your ice cream from a gas station? I think not. Having regional companies makes your home special, and it makes going home for a visit even more necessary.
(Btw Chick-fil-A, you need to come to New York.)
Being so far away from home is probably one of the worst things, but it is also one of the most fulfilling life experiences one could have. Now every time you're able to go home for a visit, it's so much more meaningful, but then after you've been home for a month, you're able to go back to school and do what you want to. Sorry Mom and Dad.
