10 Things Face Painters Are Tired Of Hearing

Face painters always enjoy talking with their customers, but maybe you should avoid saying these things.

Face painters usually love what they do, but sometimes customers say things that are either discouraging or unnecessary. Yes, this is some peoples job and it is how some people make ends meet. Here are some of the most common things people say to face painters that you probably shouldn’t.

1. We should have painted their faces at home

We all know how that would turn out.

2. This line is taking too long

I can only paint so fast, I am just as stressed out as you are impatient.

3. That’s too expensive

No, it’s really not. If you knew how much paint cost you would consider it underpriced.

4. Can you paint a tractor?

Um... Really? but no, no I can't.

5. Can you paint my face in exchange for something I’m selling?

Sometimes face painters fall for this trick and end up not getting anything for the face paint they just gave away. If you don't have an item on hand then don’t ask.

6. Just paint something on their cheek, so it will be faster.

Unfortunately, sometimes cheek art takes just as long as a full face. We want it all to look amazing.

7. You’re very quiet when you paint.

This isn’t necessarily a terrible thing to say, but sometimes people say it with an offended tone in their voice. At large events in order to paint every kid's face in the never-ending line, face painters cannot make small talk with the child because this causes them to move while we are painting and we’re trying to make their face paint look its best.

8. Can you make me look pretty?

You are already beautiful and this is an awkward question that we never really know how to answer so we end up just uncomfortably laughing.

9. Will you paint just one more kid?

All things must come to an end and face painters are almost always the last ones to leave. Once the paint is packed up it will take another 10 minutes to unpack it and we usually have to leave an event at a certain time, otherwise, we try our best to make sure everyone is able to get their face painted.

10. What is she painting?

Yes, when someone’s whole face is blue because the face painter just started painting it is hard to tell what it’s going to be, but if you wait until the end you’ll probably be impressed. When you’re painting and you hear little comments like this, it can be quite discouraging.

All in all, face painters love what they do. We love to put a smile on your face and hope it makes your day a little bit brighter. Sometimes it is difficult, but what job isn’t? Every face painter is different so never compare them and always know that they are trying their best to make you happy.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
