When I moved into my dorm in August of last year, I really had no idea what to expect. Thankfully I had the best roommate and suite mates possible. Without them, my freshman year would not have been as great as it was. However, there were still times I needed things that I did not really think I would. BUT, my mom and my roommate's mom were sure to think of everything, and these are a few of the unexpected items I ended up using all of the time...

1. Vacuum

This is a must if your dorm room has carpet. I do not know about you, but it was almost as if we shedded, there was always so much hair everywhere in our room, so the vacuum definitely helped a lot with that. You do not really think your shoes or bags are dirty, until you look down and see all of the dirt and stuff on the carpet, so having a vacuum was a huge help.

2. First Aid Kit

My mom thought of this one, and I am so thankful she did. We did not really have to use it that much this year, but when I needed a random band-aid or peroxide, I knew where to go. Knowing you have a first aid kit is also reassuring if you were to do something you may end up getting hurt in!!

3. Extension Cords and Power Strips

Our dorm room literally had a total of 4, wall plug ins. 4!!!!!!! For two teenage girls, and all of our stuff we needed to charge or plug in. Technically, we were not supposed to have extension cords, but when your bed is that far off the ground and you want to lay in bed and charge your phone, you might have to break the rules!!!

4. Sunlight blocking curtains

These are good and bad. Good, because you could sleep in for forever and the room would still be dark. Bad, because you may or may not miss class a few times because of them!!

5. Brita

Because nobody wants to drink sink water!!! It is also a good idea to have multiple, incase someone forgets to refill it after they use it!

6. Sweatshirts!!!

A literal necessity for living with people who are hot natured!! I had mine on almost every day in my room, and it was perfect.

Not to sound cheesy or anything but, your freshman year is really what you make it. I hope these things help!!

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.

It's that time of year again- Thanksgiving Break is finally approaching. For college students everywhere, Thanksgiving is a time to relax and not really worry about homework (well, depending on what major you're in).
