My boyfriend and I just recently got a new puppy and we are in love with her. She’s the cutest thing in this world, but definitely a lot of hard work. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re wanting to get a puppy.
1. Say goodbye to your sleep schedule (not that you had a good one anyway.)
My puppy is nearing 8 weeks old and is obviously not yet house trained (it’s a work in progress). This means they’ll have to be let outside constantly to avoid accidents and to train them that outside is where to go, not inside. Asleep at 3 a.m.? Nope, time to go outside. Trying to eat for the 5th time in the past two hours? Uh-uh, time to go outside.
Oh look, it’s 5 a.m. now, time to go outside. Until you have successfully trained your puppy to go outside and sleep through the night you won’t be getting the same amount of sleep you have been getting in the past.
2. Have a social life? Not anymore.
In the first stages of having a puppy, they will need constant care and attention. It’s understandable to have to go to work and school, but once you’re done you better make your way back home so you can take the puppy out and feed it.
You really are getting a best friend for life to say goodbye to the rest of your best friends, because they won’t see you as often until your puppy gets older.
3. Privacy? What’s that?
I can honestly not go to the bathroom without her whining and barking at the top of her lungs. So, I simply take her in with me, where she will proceed to nibble on my toes and stare up at me in confusion.
You will also have a new shower buddy, always waiting, always sitting right outside the shower with a few whining session to serenade you with until you decide to step out.
4. Your camera roll will be a pool of puppy pics.
Forget those important moments of graduation or pictures with your significant other. You will need to save space for all of the videos and puppy pictures you will be taking. “Oh, I won’t take that many”, yes, you will. Don’t lie to yourself.
5. All of your money is gone now as if it wasn’t before.
Having a puppy is super expensive. Between food, teething toys, training treats, puppy pads, blankets, medication, and vet visits, you’re just out of luck. Have fun eating whatever you can find at the back of your pantry, fridge, and freezer.
6. Say hello to your bestest friend in the whole world.
At the end of the day, this little terror is your best friend. They’ll be there when no one else is to give you comfort and to supply you with unconditional love. They are with you through the long run and want no one else’s approval , but yours.
I wouldn’t trade this cutie for anything in the world. She’s there for me at the end of the day and I would recomend to everyone to get a puppy at some point in their lives, but to be completely ready and available to bring them not only into your home, but into your heart as well.
