Things You Have Time To Do Now That It's Summer

Now you don't have an excuse to sit on the couch all day

Things You Have Time To Do Now That It's Summer

You never really realize how capable you are of doing absolutely nothing for consecutive hours until it’s summertime and you’re not really responsible for anything anymore. I am guilty of this self-discovery myself, and in an attempt to feel better about it, I’ve come up with a list of things that people can do with their free time in the summer.

1. Make cash

Have a lemonade stand if you're really desperate.

2. Go for a run

and then regret it.

3. Go out for breakfast

Treat yourself to some chocolate chips pancakes and a side of hash browns. You could even throw a breakfast get-together at your house.

4. Read a book

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a pretty great read, by the way.

5. Make dinner for your family

After spending an entire school year away from them, treating your family to a homemade dinner would be a pretty cute thing to do.

6. Binge watch your favorite show

I know you do this during the school year too, but the difference now is that you don’t have to feel guilty for it.

7. Plant a garden

Home grown veggies are pretty great, and it’s actually really exciting spotting one that’s ready to be picked (trust me on this).

8. Hang out with your friends from high school

You know, they ones you’re always promising that you’ll “hang out soon” with.

9. Update your Facebook profile picture

Because your senior photo from high school just doesn’t cut it anymore.

10. Become a master at french braiding your hair

Or, if you’re like me, become a master at doing anything with your hair that’s not just rolling out of bed and hoping for the best.

11. Start eating healthier

Buy more veggies and invest your time in looking up healthy recipes (although I'm a huge supporter of keeping a stash of Cheez-its nearby at all times).

12. Find the perfect combination for a sandwich

Test out a bunch of home-made sandwiches and figure out what you like best in yours. Try it with pickles, or with a sunny side egg, or with cream cheese. It’s basically an excuse to eat all day. You can thank me later.

13. Go exploring

You could go for a drive around your city, or a walk within in your neighborhood.

14. Go to the park

When was the last time you went on a swing?

15. Catch up on what's going on in the news

This is me calling you out on not paying enough attention to what's happening.

16. Update your music playlists

This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get rid of those songs you used to jam to in middle school.

17. Take the time to dress up, look good, and go out

You have time to put on real pants, or even a dress. Take advantage of it. Go and look cute for yourself and go out so everyone can appreciate it.

18. Dedicate a day to hanging out with your siblings

Plan out a fun day and invite only your siblings to join you.

19. Learn to do a cartwheel

Because who isn’t impressed by people who can do cartwheels?

20. Bake cookies

...and brownies...and cupcakes....

The next time you’re doing nothing, remember that there’s a whole bunch of things (as listed above) that you could be doing instead. Although, if you decide to continue to do nothing regardless of this realization, that’s cool too.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
