As thousands of spring breakers make their way south to the beaches, it may seem like you are the only person going home for the break.

Whether you can’t afford the vacation right now, have other things to do, or you just aren’t the Spring Break kind of person, you won’t be a part of the craziness, and that’s okay! You are definitely not alone, and this list will give you plenty of ideas to keep you busy for the week.

Here's a list of things to keep you busy during your staycation:

1. Treat yourself to a mani/pedi

Just because you won’t be at the beach doesn’t mean you can’t have some beautiful fingers and toes. Go get them done- it’s a confidence booster, and I promise you won’t regret it!

2. Make some money

While your friends are dropping money on who-knows-what, go ahead and start making some money!

Find some temporary jobs, work around the house, advertise your babysitting skills, get creative! The money-saving can start now.

3. Appreciate the break

We are constantly complaining about the workload that comes with school, so take the time to breathe. Appreciate the time away from school and that well-deserved “me time”!

4. Spend quality time with your family

You can never spend too much time with those who love you the most, and there is no better time to do it than now.

Hang out with your siblings, talk to your parents, have a family movie night. This is the perfect time to catch up and make some memories.

5. Cuddle your dog

Okay, so dogs are a personal favorite, but cuddle any of your pets (cats, bunnies, fish, or whatever you have). They miss you while you’re away at school, too!

And if you don’t have a pet, go hang out with your friend’s pet or go to the pet store to see some cute puppies. It’s a true therapy session for sure.

6. Get ahead of the game

So this may not sound like the most exciting idea, but you will never regret planning ahead.

Start looking for summer jobs or internships, or find some study abroad opportunities. You will be miles ahead of everyone else, and that makes for less stress in the long run.

7. Find some other friends at home

It may feel like everyone has abandoned your hometown for the beach, but there are more staycationers than you think!

Catch up with old friends, or go visit friends in other nearby cities who are home as well. You can definitely find people who are in the same boat as you.

8. Take a few day trips

Go explore! Get some friends and go to the nearest big city for the day, or even explore your own city!

Be a tourist, go to the places you wouldn’t normally go visit. Even if you have lived in a city all your life, there may be places you have yet to discover.

9. Catch up on that much-needed sleep

Sleeping is definitely something that everyone is lacking and could catch up on, and Spring Break at home is the best time to do it.

With no school work or responsibilities, you have all the time in the world to be lazy and finally get the rest you have been missing out on.

10. Go shopping!

Shopping is always a great go-to. You could even go shopping during the day when most people are at work, so you can avoid the stress of the mall crowd.

Stock up on some cute clothes for spring and summer, and get some great deals!

11. Spring cleaning

This may not sound like the most exciting thing either, but a long day of cleaning can be so beneficial.

Get rid of all the things you never use, start going through your clothes to find things to sell (another great way to make some money)! It may be a lot of work, but that feeling when your room is spotless and less cluttered makes it all worth it.

It may be easy to find yourself saying, “I’m SO bored” but if you just get a little creative, there are so many things you can do.

Sure, it may not be the same as the 24/7 party on the beach, but you can live vicariously through your friends when they share their stories after the break. Make your own memories and you will have some stories of your own to share as well!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
