Between the end of spring finals and the beginning of the fall semester, there are approximately 100 days of summer (give or take a couple days). While many college students spend the summer working, taking extra classes, or doing whatever they can to bulk up their resume - a special few get a couple days off here and there to enjoy their break. While you’re home this summer, or anywhere for that matter, make sure you spend the summer doing what makes you happy. If you can’t figure out what that is, here’s a list of 51 things you can do to fight boredom and capitalize on your time off!

  1. Get a little tan, maybe even try 'tantoos!'
  2. Feed the birds at your local park
  3. Run through a sprinkler or two
  4. Visit relatives you don't see often
  5. Have a picnic
  6. Go hiking somewhere new
  7. Take a painting class with friends
  8. Spend an afternoon in a bookstore
  9. Find a quiet beach to go seaglass hunting
  10. Go swimming
  11. Have a water balloon fight
  12. Make some s'mores
  13. Fill your driveway with chalk drawings
  14. Make your own ice cream
  15. Build a sandcastle
  16. Destroy said sandcastle
  17. Learn a new skill like cooking or drawing
  18. Catch fireflies at dusk
  19. Wake up to catch the sunrise
  20. Make a slip’n’slide (all you need is a tarp and some dish soap)
  21. Go pick fruit that's in season
  22. Plant a garden
  23. Watch fireworks
  24. Make your own popsicles
  25. Go kayaking
  26. Spend a rainy day indoors with a board game or two
  27. Read a new book, or several new books
  28. Try meditation
  29. Listen to some new music you've never heard of
  30. Take a walk outside

  32. Write a song or a poem
  33. Play in a waterfall
  34. Assemble a fleet of paper airplanes
  35. Go bowling

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
