Coming home for the summer means that I get to enjoy all of the places around town I've always loved as a kid. My mom was always home during the summers so my sister and I were very lucky to get to get to go do things as opposed to just staying at home every day. I might not find where I'm from to be the most fun of towns, but I've really come to appreciate it and all it has to offer. After all, some people pretty much bleed Canton blood.

Heres xx fun things to do and places to go in Canton that I think can make one hell of a summer...even for the most bored of teenagers. (You've been warned. A lot of these places have to do with food because well, my family loves food.)

1. Woody's Rootbeer Stand

After a nice, long walk in the park, my mom would drive my sister and me to this little stand. We absolutely loved it. If you appreciate a good root beer float, I can't think of a better place for you to go on a hot summer's day.

2. Canton First Fridays

Nothing is better than spending some time downtown on a nice summer night. If you love and appreciate the art culture you'll absolutely love it. There's plenty to see and plenty to do whether it be walking around art exhibits or stopping at a great place to eat.

3. Taggart's Ice Cream Parlor

I don't think I can ever explain the love I have for this place. My family has made stops at this place for years. For as long as I can remember I've been sitting in a booth there eating a Bittner. Coming from a family who loves ice cream more than anything in this entire world take it seriously when I say that it's the best ice cream I've ever had.

4. Muggswigz Coffee & Tea

Everybody likes either coffee or tea, and if you don't you have to love a nice, cozy place to hang out with your friends. They have open mic nights for aspiring singers and comedians, along with a plethora of board games for you and your friends to enjoy.

5. Cultured Coffee & Waffles

You don't have to just like breakfast food to like this place. It's the cutest little shop with everything from regular waffles, dessert waffles, and even waffle burgers. I definitely recommend going for when you're in the mood for something a little different.

6. The Players Guild Theatre

I've been going to plays and musicals here for as long as I can remember. My family used to make a big deal out of getting all dressed up and going out to eat before watching a performance. I can honestly say some of the best performances I have ever seen have been at The Players Guild Theatre.

7. The William McKinley Monument

While I guarantee it wasn't created with the intention to be a free workout area for locals, it's become just that. So, if you and a friend ever want to get a break from the gym and get outside to work out. Trust me, running up all 108 of those steps makes you break a sweat and die a little inside. Plus, if you had a really good workout and want a reward Taggart's is just a few blocks away.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
