7 Things To Do Every Day To Not Die During Finals

It's called dead week for a reason...

It's finals week. That means you're gonna start seeing students aimlessly walking around campus as if they have no purpose, go through the crosswalk without checking if there's a car coming, and walk back home at 4 in the morning dreading the 8 AM they have the next day. Here are 7 tips to do every day to not die during finals week:

1. Wake up with a good attitude

You probably read that and were like "hell nah, it's dead week and I'm gonna keep moping around till Christmas break comes." Well, that's exactly what I'm talking about! I'm not telling you to wake up and shout to the heavens "HECK YEAH LET'S RALLY AND STUDY"-- no, what I'm saying is to wake up and simply motivate yourself to get through one more week. Use the holidays to motivate you to get through one more week. If you can get through 4-5ish months of school, you can definitely get through one more week.

2. Eat

Don't be that guy whose stomach growls throughout the whole day- it's annoying and it makes us pity you. Plus, you've heard it from your parents growing up- your brain needs food, and you definitely need a brain to think, heck, even write. So go ahead, splurge a bit, treat yourself to your favorite food to hype you up to study. Keep in mind though that having a Redbull and chips for three meals a day WILL NOT be sufficient enough to keep you going.

3. Don't have excessive amounts of coffee or any other caffeine

Speaking of energy drinks, here's a great story... One time I stayed up all night to study for an exam and that morning it took me a can of Monster and a venti-sized cup to survive. Let's just say that by 2 PM that day I was in bed and crashed till 5 AM the next day. The caffeine crash is real my friends. (Try five-hour energy next time)

4. Please get some sleep

The whole story in step three probably wouldn't have happened had I slept for a couple of hours. Honestly, it was so hard to keep my eyes open during that exam- I swear I literally fell asleep for five minutes and dreamed about studying for the exam while taking the exam. So (and notice how I say please) get some sleep- it'll be good for you and your good ol' brain up there.

5. If you find an animal, cuddle TF out of it

Dog, cat, bunny, monkey I don't care- just find an animal and pet the living heck out of it. I swear, it relieves all stress for a good 15 minutes. Guaranteed or your money back.

6. Prioritize, organize and execute

This is definitely the most important step. If you don't prioritize, you'll find yourself in my situation above: no sleep, caffeine-ridden, and dead for a good 16 hours. This can be key to how you study as well because you'll know what exactly to study for and when to study for each exam. Yes, you might have to skip that Christmas party you've been waiting all week for, but hey if your grade is on the line, I'm sure that's more important than something you can definitely do over break. Make a schedule, prioritize the harder classes, and most importantly go through with your plan.

7. Stress less, do more and breathe

One of my high school teachers used to nag to us that when we study for an important exam, we spend a good 75% of our study time worrying and stressing about that exam rather than just taking a deep breath and going into it. The other 25% was spent actually studying and intermittently checking Snapchat. So go ahead, put the phone away right away, turn on some study music, take a deep breath, and dig in.

So to all taking finals this week or next week, I hope these steps helped and motivated you to go on and tackle the studying. Go into that test with confidence. You've spent the past couple months learning about the subject so there's gotta be something on that test that you know. Take a deep breath and ace the heck outta that exam. Best of luck and happy dead week!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
