It seems as though everyday when I wake up in the morning, there is always some new horrible story about something tragic happening in our world. Whether it was a mass shooting, an armed gunman making their way to a nearby attraction, a death of some sort, a new disease epidemic...you name it, it has happened and most likely will continue to happen.

Our world isn't a terrible place, but I have to admit, after hearing a new horrifying story almost everyday, it seems like it sometimes.

Our world can be filled with such hate and destruction, that it becomes hard to see the good things through the bad. We begin to forget about the beauty and love that our world consists of, even if it isn't shown on the news everyday. We begin to forget the little things that truly make us happy on a day to day basis, and continue to dwell on the tragedies that hateful people feel the need to endorse on our Earth.

In order to deal with all the negativity and hate in our world during these past few weeks and months, try thinking of a couple things that make you happy to be on this Earth.

Here, I'll start you off with some of my own.

1. The smell of freshly cut grass.

2. The feeling on sand beneath your toes.

3. Seeing an old friend that you haven't seen for a while.

4. Being with someone you love.

5. Being in love.

6. Feeling an ocean breeze.

7. Achieving a goal.

8. Having the freedom to express yourself.

9. Finding beauty in the smallest places.

10. Knowing someone loves you.

11. Having the ability to learn new things.

12. Laughing so hard you cry.

13. Taking a bite of really good food.

14. Hearing the birds chirping in what seems to be complete silence.

15. The ability to receive an education.

16. Reading a good book.

17. Being able to wake up every morning.

18. Being surrounded by the ones you love most.

19. Having beautiful weather.

20. That feeling of butterflies in your stomach.

21. Being able to inspire yourself and others.

22. Getting a letter in the mail.

23. Getting into bed after a long day.

24. Seeing the sun rise/sun set.

25. The feeling of a nice breeze.

26. Being able to write.

27. Being able to travel and see the beauty of this world.

28. Meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds.

29. Being able to learn a new language.

30. The fact that I have food, water, and a good home.

31. The ability to do the impossible.

32. Being able to live life how I want to.

33. Having good health.

34. Being able to go out of my way to do something for someone else.

35. Having the ability to help others in need.

36. The ability to prove others wrong, or prove myself wrong.

37. Making new friends.

38. Finding something that I had forgotten all about.

39. The feeling of being content.

40. The ability to find happiness,

41. The ability to choose and have my own faith and beliefs.

42. The ability to solve problems for myself.

43. A great cup of coffee.

44. Feeling comfortable in my own skin.

45. Seeing others happy.

46. Contributing to small acts of kindness.

47. Feeling comfortable with someone.

48. Being able to look up at a clear, blue sky.

49. Being able to be at peace.

50. Hearing something good on the news for a change.

Although the world can seem like a terrible place at times, especially during these last few weeks, if you think of at least 10 things a day that make you happy to be on this Earth, your mindset will change.

The events happening in our world today are terrible, tragic, and devastating to everyone living on it.

They are the reason that we need to find happiness within ourselves, so that maybe one day we too can change the world ... but for the better instead.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
