The Lucky 7 Things You Should Take On Your Next Lake Trip!
Tessa Holka

I recently visited a lake in Michigan with my boyfriend's family. They just bought a house so we decided to make it a family vacation! I've only ever been to a beach on vacation so I really didn't know what to expect. I am also that kind of person that packs way too much! So here's what I think you'll need on your next lake trip.

1. Casual Clothes

I am the absolute worst at clothes packing, I will pack everything in my closet (and almost did this time). Since being up at the lake I've learned everything is very casual. You don't need much more than shorts and tees, maybe a dress, bathing suits and something a little warmer for the night boating as in a hoodie and leggings. Don't pack more than you need no one wants to carry a heavy suitcase (especially my boyfriend)!

2. A Hat

One of the 'major key' things I take with me anywhere is a baseball cap. I prefer a baseball cap because it can go with anything and it doesn't catch the wind and fly off as easily as the floppy hats. My favorite is a vintage looking Pitt hat that's navy. It has an open back so I can put a pony tail through and a long bill to keep the sun out of my eyes. A hat is a perfect accessory for use and to promote your favorite team!

3. A Blanket

Not only do you need a blanket for your bed but there are so many different uses that is why it is on my list! A blanket can be used for a picnic on the sand and for my favorite use a cover for the windy night boat rides. At night and even during the day the lake is very windy. The best way to fight the wind is a perfect sweatshirt material blanket. Of course, I had a Pitt one to snuggle up with and it was perfect!

4. Aloe

I am not one to slather on sunscreen or even harp on about skin cancer. I have an olive skin color and am proud of it. I love tanning and do it frequently. This week up at the lake I was fine without anything until the day I jet skied. I was pretty burnt so I was pleasantly surprised to find my aloe in my travel toiletry bag. I love aloe the cooling feel and it helps turn my burn into a tan quicker. I always have it in my travel stuff!

5. Moisturizer

Going back to not liking sunscreen, some moisturizers specifically for sun have felt globby and too thick for the face. I have been using the same Clinique moisturizer for the past few years. It's their moisture surge it's pink! I highly recommend my skin feels full of moisture even after days of laying in the sun. The formula is also very lightweight so you don't have to worry about being cakey. I wore it by itself with a little bit of mascara and it felt and looked great!

6. Sunglasses: 2 pair

So I am that person who has one pair of absolutely loved sunglasses. I've had these things for 2 years now & they are well worth the expensive price tag. These designer sunglasses are only to be worn out to dinner, not anywhere they could be crushed and absolutely not near sand or water. No scratches, no losses. The second pair are the cheapest ones I can possibly find (that still look good on your face). These are the sunglasses you wear on the sand, in the water boating, and on your jet skis. The cheap pair is like the protector of your clear lens beautiful sunglasses.

7. Sandals: 2 Pair

This one is very similar to the sunglasses. You have one pair that are your expensive ones (Birkenstocks for me). You can wear those to dinner or out shopping in the little lake towns. The second pair of sandals are very cheap. $3.99 plastic flip flops are perfect for on the boat, in the water and on the sand 'beaches'.

These are my top Lucky Seven things I think everyone should take on a lake trip!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
