Prior to this spring break, I have never really traveled with anyone besides my family. Sure, I have been on vacations with friends or extended beach trips, but never fully without parental supervision. This time however, it was just me and my friends with no parents in sight. While it was a short vacation, here are the things I realized while traveling with just my friends.
1. It is difficult to mobilize a large number of people
Trying to get 12 people up and ready at the same time is never a good time, especially when everyone is tired, needs to shower and the air bnb is small.
2. You can't please everyone
Everyone has different opinions and interests no matter how similar you all are. Sometimes you are going to do things you don't want to do but sometimes your friends are going to participate in something just because you like it, so it goes both ways. Embrace it!
3. Splitting the bill is always awkward
This is especially awkward when the group is so big the restaurant can't split it. All I have to say is thank god venmo exists.
4. Living out of a suitcase is never ideal
Have you ever tried keeping your stuff organized in a room with three other girls? Because I will tell you first hand, it is impossible. When there is no where but your suitcase to keep your things, it really forces you to only pull out the clothing that you need or all your stuff will end up on the ground with your friends stepping on it.
5. Sharing really is caring
You have to share everything with these people while on vacation together. Beds, food, space, showers, etc. It is a lot, even for those of us who grew up with siblings. But sharing your last drink or taking a quicker shower than you would have liked to so your friend gets a turn proves just how much you care about the people you are with!
