From the gross school lunches, immature kids, and dirty hallways, I didn't think I was going to miss much about high school. After being in college for a few weeks, here are the five of the things I miss most already:
1. Home cooked meals.
Cafeteria food is no match for mom and dad's cooking.
2. Knowing people.
I miss looking to my left and right in class and knowing my classmates. Being in a lecture class with 300 other students makes knowing all my classmates impossible. It also is pretty challenging to get to know professor like I got to know my high school teachers.
3. Free textbooks
Well, you don't just have to tell your teacher your number and write your name inside of a textbook now to consider it yours for the year. Instead, you have to drop a nice stack of cash for some books that you might just return in a semester anyway. I like it the free way better.
4. The routine
I miss the routine that I had in my high school years. It was as simple as the bells to go to class at the same time each day, lunch at the same time, and seeing familiar faces.
5. High school basketball
Mrs. Manz
I never thought I would say it, but I miss playing speed ball at basketball open gyms. I miss laughing and smiling the whole time and just enjoying the game with great people. My teammates were my some of my best friends, and I miss our daily shenanigans.
I guess at the end of the day, these are all just changes and differences. Something that isn't familiar, yet. It's only a matter of time before this becomes the norm, but until then I'm still going to miss some parts of high school.
