2017: The year of doing more of what you want

Something that most people can agree on was that 2016 was a downhill slope of a year. Many things happened that people would like to keep in the past, and here are just a few that I came up with:

1. The Death of Iconic Stars.

The year started by taking David Bowie from us and ended with the passing of Carrie Fisher with countless deaths in between. Someone started a GoFundMe to keep Betty White alive and, after this year, that’s something that I support.

2. Talking About the Election.

There is no getting around the fact that Donald Trump is president, and whether that is something you do or do not support, the countless Facebook rants should come to an end. The online fighting with distant family members online about this topic is no longer worth your time or energy.

3. Jokes about Harambe.

This is something that should have stopped midway through the year days after it had started, but let’s not let the jokes about this deceased gorilla continue into another year. Find a new topic to obsess over and make countless jokes and memes about in the new year.

4. Youtube Challenges.

The mannequin challenge, the highlighter challenge, the one hundred coats challenge. While these were all fun to watch the first couple of videos that came out of them, there are far too many of these now and they should definitely not be brought into the new year.

5. Negativity.

This goes without saying that everyone would like the new year to be more positive than the last. Let’s put in a little more effort on this for the new year so we aren’t feeling as tragic as we do now at the end of 2017.

2017 should be the year of doing more of what you want and feeling unapologetic about it. Do not let people tell you that your feelings are invalid and do the things that you were too afraid to do in 2016. Whether that is getting the tattoo you have always wanted or quitting the job that makes your live miserable, 2017 is the time to do it. Whatever your “new year's resolution” might be, make it one that will make 2017 proud.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
