If we're being honest I'm not a huge fan of New Years Resolutions. I think they're bogus and no one ever follows through with them. Whenever people ask me my resolutions I normally make something up on the spot. So this year I plan on being honest and saying, "No I didn't make any resolutions, but I've been reflecting on things I've learned this year". As 2017 comes to an end I thought it would be perfect to pick the 17 more important lessons I've learned this year.
1. Just because no one else is doing it, doesn't mean you shouldn't
2. You never know what someone else is going through
This is something my mom has told me my whole life (yes I am admitting my mom was right) if someones being a little rude or short with you give them the benefit of the doubt. You have no clue whats going on in their life right now.
3. Dance like no ones watching
Stop caring what other people think of you.
4. Surround yourself with people you love
It doesn't matter if that means a small group of 4 or 5 people. Don't waste your time with people that aren't in for the long haul
5. Having a job is awesome
So many people thought it wasn't the best idea when I picked up a part-time job this past semester. But I can honestly say it's one of the best decisions I made all semester.
6. Appreciate the little things
7. Don't hold grudges
They just make you grumpier.
8. Always apologize first
You'll feel so much better afterward.
9. Compliment people
I used to feel weird complimenting people for some reason, but if you genuinely think someone's hair looks good or their sweater is cute let them know! It will make them smile and that's always a good thing.
10. Don't take anything for granted
You never know when you might lose something.
11. Always trust your gut
12. It's okay to not have a plan
It might feel weird, but there's nothing wrong with going with the flow every once and a while.
13. When you talk to people, make eye contact
It seems so insignificant, but it makes all the difference when you're speaking with someone. It shows that you're paying attention and the conversation is important to you.
14. A little bit of chocolate makes everything better
15. It's okay to be wrong or make a mistake
Just make sure you acknowledge it, fix it, and then move forward.
16. Only speak the truth
Even if it might hurt a little.
17. Make an effort to always be positive
This may seem broad, but just small changes every day can change your whole outlook. I truly believe there is a silver lining in every situation and if you try to find it you'll always come out on top.
