I was in a private Catholic school for most of my school career, from first grade to senior year of high school. It has shaped a lot of who I am and how I treat others. Some people say that Catholic school was not the best part of their life and they are glad to be done with it, but I just want to say that I am grateful for my time there. So here is a small list of some things I learned from my time there.
1. Be considerate of others
Whether it's holding a door for someone or giving them a compliment, just be nice to people. You don't know what they have gone through that day and doing something small for them could be the best part of their day.
2. Say thank you to your teachers
They have a hard job and don't get a lot of credit. They will remember those students who were nice to them and it makes their day a little easier. Thank your teachers, everyone, they need it.
3. Be grateful for getting to go to class in sweatpants
Yes, a uniform makes getting ready in the morning easier. Yes, it can stop a lot of criticism of kids by other kids. Yes, a uniform saves money. But they can also be super uncomfortable and ruin some clothing for you. Be grateful that in college you can wear whatever you want. I personally love going to class in leggings and sweatpants. It's comfy and easy.
4. Respect
Respect your teachers because they do a lot. Respect others who might be different from you. I went to school with a lot of kids from different faiths and being in a school where religion class is a daily thing, you learn how to respect those kids who sit through a class that teaches something they may not agree with. They are strong and I give them props.
5. Appreciate what you have
There were a lot of schools around ours that didn't have a lot of the technology or money we did. I heard about things that went on there, and it made very grateful for what the parents did to help out. We learned to appreciate the aspects of our school that made learning fun and a little easier.
