To say the past year has been easy would be far from the truth. I endured things I never wanted to and I had to face things that were harder than I could ever imagine. I've put together some things that I've learned and found useful.

1. Don't be negative.
There is nothing that can make life worse than being negative and focusing on the bad things. Always look forward and always see the best.

2. Always wear comfy footwear everywhere.
It never fails that within an hour you're kicking yourself for not wearing the comfy shoes and having your feet hurt for the next numerous hours. You always need that pair of comfy shoes because you never know when you'll need to break out your awesome dance moves.

3. Be adventurous and take risks.
Get out of your comfort zone and explore. You never know how much you'll love something if you don't try.

4. Keep "to-do" lists for your everyday tasks.
They keep track of what you need to do, how much you have left to do, and not to mention the satisfaction of marking off the last thing.

5. Believe in yourself.
Nothing less ever.

6. Do not skip sleep!
Nothing is worth skipping sleep for and being exhausted the next day. Listen to your body, sleep and take care of your mental health.
7. Work hard.
It will pay off.

8. Health should be a priority.
Physical health and mental health.

9. Seeing a therapist is okay.
It's nothing to be ashamed of.Sometimes you just need that extra third party help to get you through the day.

10. You can't live under your rock forever.
Get out, explore, keep up with politics, keep up with the environment.

11. Never get too comfortable.
Something will change. Everything changes. Learn to embrace the change and roll with it.

12. Don't be a push over.
Don't let people control how you feel, what you do, and how you see reality. You are in control of your outcome and your life.

13. Love your parents now, not later.
Cherish your moments, the laughs, the cries, and the laziness you share with them now. One day they won't be here and you'll regret not doing these things now with them.
14. Friendships are seasonal and that's okay.
This is something that's hard for me. Not everybody is meant to be in your life forever, some are just meant to be apart of your chapter and guide you in a certain direction.

15. Use sunscreen.
Being tan is all fun and games until you are older and get skin cancer. Take care of your skin and use that sunscreen.

16. A glass of wine is always okay...and sometimes even the whole bottle.

17. Don't be rude.
Being a rude snob is not cool and is not okay. It's not cool to be rude to people and disrespect people. You don't know what's really going on behind close doors.

18. College SUCKS.
College sucks so freaking much. But it's only temporary, college isn't forever. The late night crying from stress, the long nights, and the hair pulling is only temporary. Soon it will be over and soon it will all pay off.

19. Taking medication that will help you is okay.
It's not something to be ashamed of. Embrace it. Take control and love how it helps you.

20. It's okay to lose friends on your journey.
Don't waste energy on friendships, or even relationships that don't serve you. Don't allow yourself to keep somebody toxic in your life.

21. Be generous.
Giving is one of the greatest gifts. People remember the small things you do. Open a door, tell somebody you like their hair that day. It could completely change their outlook on the day.

22. You can't please everybody, so please yourself before you please others!
Make yourself a priority first sometimes.

23. And finally, it's okay for your path to change.
Ditch a plan that you had, embrace it. Sometimes that's God's way of telling you that he has a plan.

You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
