A Few Things I've Learned After Completing My Sophomore Year

You still have plenty of time to figure out what you're doing.

While I thought my freshman year of college went by super fast, it seems like my sophomore year passed by even quicker. Not only do I feel like it went by too fast, but I definitely learned more lessons this past year about friendships, classes, and life in general. It's crazy to think that I'm halfway done with my college career. I feel like it was just yesterday when I was a nervous, out-of-state freshman who knew nobody. Now, I've made more memories in college than I can even count, and I would not change that for the world.

One of the biggest things I have learned this year is that it's okay to not be friends with all the people you were friends with freshman year. I think that there is a common misconception that you are going to meet your absolute best friends your freshman year, and you will stick with them forever. While this works out for some people, it definitely does not for everyone. I met some amazing people my freshman year, and I still am friends with a handful of them. However, I've realized that sophomore year is when you truly start to find out who your best friends are. This year, I have had the privilege of meeting some of the greatest people ever. My roommate from this year and I really did not know each other that well at all at the beginning of our sophomore year. However, she has become one of my best friends; and I bet it will continue for a lifetime!

I remember freshman year, there was always a pressure to go out and constantly be doing things on the weekends. This year, I have realized that it's okay to stay in and take time for yourself. With the busy lifestyle that all college students live, it's extremely important to remember that we all deserve 'me time'. Honestly, sometimes, I like to be in bed by 9:00 on a Friday night, binge watch shows, and eat snacks. And that is totally okay!

However, don't pass up all the fun; you're only in college once. This year, me and three other friends all packed up our bags and went to the Appalachian State versus Georgia game in Athens. We were the handful of people wearing our gold and black in a sea full of red. Even though we got creamed, it was an unforgettable trip with some of my favorite people. If you have the opportunity to go on crazy fun adventures with people who like to spend time with, go for it. When else are you going to do it?

Finally, I've learned to stop freaking out about my future because I know I still have plenty of time to figure it out. College is not all about figuring out what you want to do with the rest of your life, but it's about finding yourself as well. While grades are very important and essential, that does not make up who you are as a person or what you want to do in the future to come. I still have two more years until I graduate, and I am going to continue to live my college career to the fullest.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
