5 Things I Miss About Mississippi State University

With the Corona Virus spreading, Mississippi State extended our Spring Break and then transitioned us completely into online classes. Since this happened, a lot of people didn't get the chance to say goodbye to their favorite things on campus, especially the seniors. I'm only a freshman, but it still feels awful that I didn't get to finish out my first year on campus. Because of this, I decided to make a list of my favorite things/things I miss about Mississippi State.

1. Living with one of my BEST friends

At the beginning of the school year, I was SO nervous about moving into college. Although I had talked to Faith over social media, we had never met in person until Fall Move-In day. When we met, we clicked. We did so much together that first week of school. I miss all of our shopping days, Starbucks splurges, and trips to the union at 9 just to use our other block.

2. The Perry's macaroni and cheese

If you've never had it, you're missing out. The Perry is known for "Fried chicken Wednesdays"; however, the best part of Wednesday isn't the chicken, its the mac and cheese. It doesn't hurt that sweet Ms. Annie always serves me a TON of mac and cheese with the most caring attitude.

3. My Phi Lamb Sisters

This group of girls are some of the sweetest people I've ever met! I loved my first semester of chapters, prayer groups, and new member meetings, and I'm so sad it got cut short. I'm so excited that I'll get to be an active come fall semester, though!

4. Having a Starbucks not even 40 yards from my dorm.

I lived in Hull Hall, which is right across from the Student Union. In the student union, there's a Chick Fil A, Pizza Hut, Panda Express, Starbucks, etc. Starbucks is definitely my favorite part because if I needed a pick-me-up, I could easily stop by on the way to class and grab a quick drink.

5. Baseball Season

I LOVE baseball, and I had been to some State games before I became a student. However, it's so much better when all you have to do is swipe your student ID to get into the games. Because of my schedule, I had only gotten to go to 3 or 4 games before the season was canceled. I'm too ready for next season.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
