I recently began my freshman year at Boston University and, even though it hasn’t even been a week since I left home, I have learned quite a few things:
1. It’s easy to get lost inside Warren Towers.
Even with the numerous signs and arrows, my first couple of days at Warren Towers were spent aimlessly wandering around, not knowing if I was going the right way, and fervently hoping that I wouldn’t set off an alarm by opening the only door in sight.
2. You get accustomed to communal bathrooms.
Let’s face it: you really don’t have a choice, and they aren’t that bad.
3. Don’t forget to pay attention to what you’re eating.
Now that I can choose my meals from a wide range of selections, I need to consciously make sure that I try to eat healthy at least once in awhile.
4. There are a lot of ways to get around on campus.
From the BUS to unicycles, I have seen numerous methods employed for traveling around campus. And I am impressed.
5. Look both ways before crossing over the train tracks in the middle of the road.
The T, while great for transportation, probably isn’t the softest thing in the world, and you don't always see it coming.
6. You need to step out of your comfort zone.
Being shy makes forming new friendships a difficult task as is claiming opportunities that present themselves. In college, you need to do stuff for yourself, talk to new people, and work hard to get what you deserve.
7. Boston is beautiful.
I could stare at the Charles River all day and the skyline behind it all day, and I had to slow down to appreciate Bay State Road’s beauty even though I was running late to class.
8. BU is amazing.
From the various kinds of people to the traditions and events on campus, BU is truly, undoubtedly incredible.
