14 Things That WILL Happen At Your Family's Thanksgiving Dinner This Year, So Be Ready For That

After a VERY long semester, you are finally out of classes for the week and can visit your family that you haven't seen in months. If your family is anything like mine, all of our extended family meets three times a year: Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is the perfect time to catch up on what's going on in your family's lives. While you stress eat your life away with good food, here are some things to expect at your family's Thanksgiving dinner.

1. Still eating at the kids table, even though you're in your twenties

But you can't go first when they say "children make your plates first?" That just ain't right.

2. The banana pudding is gone before dinner is even ready

We all have that one aunt that makes the BEST banana pudding and everyone wants to make sure they get a bowl before it's all gone. Then, they'll save a bowl for dessert and take a few scoops with them on the road.

3. So is the red velvet cake

Gone with the wind.

4. Your family asking you "So how's college?" 50 million times

The only thing you can do is smile and say "good" but little do they know you're dead inside and always on the verge of a mental breakdown.

5. Getting money

With being a college student, everyone knows your broke and loves to give you money. They'll slip it into your hand when your mom isn't looking and whisper, "This is for those good grades, keep it up."

6. That one cousin that can't hold their liquor

Is it just me or is there always that one cousin that gets a little drunk during thanksgiving?

7. Your great Uncle taking 15 minutes to say grace

We're all hungry and salivating through the grace and just when you think he's about to wrap up the blessing, he wants to go around the ENTIRE circle and ask people what they're thankful for. THE TORTURE.

8. The family saying dinner will be ready at 2 p.m, but it really won't be ready until 7

Dinner is never on time. Never.

9. Nobody touching the cranberry sauce

Nobody eats it, yet someone still brings it every year.

10. Having people show up to dinner that you've never seen before but they know your name and are somehow your cousin

And when they come to talk to you, you have to whip them with the "Heyyy.... you!"

12. To go containers

Everyone makes plates for the people who weren't able to show up. Also, this is basically Christmas for the college students getting all the homemade food in while they can!

13. Stealing pieces of cornbread/Hawaiian rolls while all of the other food is still cooking

Some people have cornbread, some people have Hawaiian rolls, and some people have both at their Thanksgiving dinners. Either way, it is always the first item ready before anything else is at Thanksgiving dinner. Stealing a piece of cornbread or a roll will help you survive a few more hours.

14. Starving yourself all day

It may not be healthy, but you have to make sure you can eat as much as you can.

14. Passing out in the back seat on the car ride home

What can I say, the "itis" ain't no joke.

Enjoy your time with family and friends this year and remember there is always room for dessert!

mistake
Project Eve

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

Who could be a better friend than your own sister?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
