9 Things To Get You Through Till Thanksgiving

Not having to get out of bed and attend classes for a week is such a gift.

I don't know about the rest you but I know I am in need of a break. With exams, speeches, reading, and studying I am done with this semester. We still have multiple weeks, but all I know is I am looking forward to Thanksgiving/fall break here at ISU. I'm counting down the days until I get to lay in my bed and do absolutely nothing for an entire week besides eating a delicious home-cooked meal. All I know is these nine things are what's going to get me through until a week-long break in November.

1. Own bed

There is nothing comfier than one's own bed. Going from a queen-sized to a twin-sized bed is pure evil. My bed has the maximum level of comfort I'm used too, and I can hog as much room as possible without worrying about my knee hitting the wall or foot hanging off the bed. And I don't have to force myself to get out of it until my mom forces me too.

2. Home-cooked meals

Let's be real, no matter how awful a home-cooked meal might turn out it's better than the dining hall food. And I'm sick of eating easy-mac when I don't have enough motivation to go to the dining hall.

3. Not sharing a bathroom with eight other people

Sharing a bathroom with umpteen other girls can get pretty disgusting. Especially when people don't clean up the ramen or easy mac noodles from the sink. Or not cleaning up their puke in the shower. Please, your mother isn't here to clean up after yourselves.

And this gif basically explains my feelings for my bathroom back at home.

4. No classes

No doubt the best reason of break. You don't have to torture yourself and sit through a lecture for an hour and stare off into space. You can now sit in your bed and stare off into space knowing you aren't missing any important information.

5. Not hearing your next door neighbors through the walls

Thin walls and trying to sleep do not mix because you hear everything. I'd really like to get some sleep but it's kind of hard to do at one in the morning when people are loud and aren't considerate of the quiet hours. That's right, my level of saltiness is real towards those people.

6. Not having to do your own laundry

Okay, so I get lazy and put off doing laundry until I know I need to do it. So it will be nice to have someone else do my laundry instead of me having to wait until a machine is open. And then only having to my clothes half dry because the dryers are crap. So sorry mom for the laundry you have to do again.

7. Friends

Of course, I'll miss the friends I've made at college so far but getting to see my friends from home after not seeing them for weeks on end makes the sun shine a little brighter.

8. No studying, reading ,etc.

I don't know about you but unless I have a test the week right after the break which I highly doubt since finals will be right around the corner, my brain is going to get a well-deserved break from doing intense studying.

9. Literally, you can do anything you want

You don't have to worry about going to class, or what to read or study next. You can do whatever your heart desires. Whether you want to sleep and never leave your bed beside for food or meet up with friends or just move to the couch and binge watch all day, you have all the time in the world.

Living away from home surely makes you miss things back at home that you didn't appreciate enough or complained about. All we need to do is get through the next couple weeks and then we don't have to anything pertaining to school for a few glorious days.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
