7 Things I Will Miss Most From Freshman Year

How am I going to survive without 24/7 access to food and friends?

Freshman year of college is definitely a learning curve that requires a lot of adjustment, leaving a lot of people stressed and sleep-deprived. But freshman year is also an amazing time to learn about anything and everything, meet new people, and try new things.

As freshman year is coming to an end, there are so many things I will miss, but here is a list of the things I will miss the most.

1. Living in the dorms

We may complain about our dorms occasionally with the strict rules and kitchens that smell like the fish someone cooked last night, but nothing beats being within a 15-minute walk to everything.

This is definitely something we take for granted, and I know I will miss the central location and easy access to food and friends at all times.

2. My roommate

The bond between freshman roommates is a special one. My roommate became one of my closest friends after seeing me go through my highest highs and my lowest lows and accepted every moment of it.

I will definitely miss being able to hop in her bed whenever I want and have movie nights whenever we want.

3. Having access to my friends 24/7

Just like being able to see my roommate all the time, I will definitely miss being able to see all my other friends whenever I want.

Whether it’s spontaneously meeting up for lunch or spending hours in each other’s rooms, I will definitely miss being close to all my new friends and old friends that I got closer to.

4. An easier course load

To all incoming freshmen: take advantage of your introductory-level classes. Even though they seemed stressful at times, I know I will miss all my 100 level core classes when I am struggling in my major classes for the rest of my college career.

5. All the “firsts”

From the first day of classes to the first A on an exam, there are so many great things about freshman year that I got to experience for the first time.

It symbolizes the beginning of the next four years, and I will miss going into new situations with uncertainty, but deciding to take the risk anyway.

6. Mid-day naps

Another perk to living on campus: naps. Being able to take breaks in between classes to come back to the dorm and get a power nap will definitely be missed. I won’t be able to run back to my apartment next year when I need a nap, so it looks like I will have to get creative.

7. Not having to cook

With living on campus comes a meal plan, which is also something we complain about a lot, but it is taken for granted.

It is so easy to pop in the dining hall and get whatever food I am in the mood for, all without having to do any work. The food might not always be top notch, but it beats having to cook and clean.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
