As the Thanksgiving season approaches it is important to reflect on the multitudes of things that we all have to be thankful for.

One of the best opportunities a college woman can have is the invitation to join and become an active member of a sorority on campus. Sororities bring positivity, encouragement, sisterhood, and a plethora of other things into the lives of their members.

Here are a few things that every sorority girl should be thankful for.

1. Your Big

Your big is the one person in this college world who will always answer your call. A big sister is a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and your biggest fan. Having a big sister is a huge blessing and having someone to look up to and lean on at all times is something that should never be taken for granted.

2. Your Little

Taking a little can be one of the most exciting times in your sorority life. Having the chance to mentor a new member throughout her time in your organization is an amazing opportunity. Appreciate all of the things that your little does that remind you of you in your younger days, your little will make a lot of mistakes but if she knows she can lean on you then she’ll be okay.

3. Your Executive Council

Oftentimes the insane amount of work that goes into running a sorority is overlooked by the chapter members because somehow everything always gets done. A majority of this work is done by the executive council and their hard work often goes unnoticed. Next time you go to an event, a social, or even just chapter, be sure to thank the council members that put countless hours into the planning and execution in order to make sure things ran smoothly and without error.

4. Your Sisterhood

The most important and beneficial part of joining a sorority is the support and encouragement that comes from having a sisterhood. After being initiated, you are forever surrounded by a number of women who will be there for you in everything you do. Sorority sisters are a force to be reckoned with and your sisters will stand by you no matter what, in any situation.

Every person in a chapter is important and brings something unique and special to your organization. Don’t let the work of your sisters go unnoticed. So, next week in chapter thank your big, your little, a council member, and any sister for all that she does!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
