Rowing is an intense sport and I love it. It's mentally, emotionally, and physically challenging. My teammates help me through practices and everything else I could possibly think of - they are always there for me. Every day at practice one of us says something that we can all relate to or think "literally same" or "RE-FREAKIN-TWEET!!" Rowers are insane for what they do, but I am so happy that I can call this sport mine. If you're a rower, than hopefully you can relate to these things. And to my team, this is for y'all and I love y'all oh so much!
1. It is socially acceptable to hate erging.
Why must you be such a crazy contraption because I don't understand you!
2. When someone asks why your legs are always sore:
Because it's all about the legs!
3. When someone complains about being sore after one leg day:
For rowers, everyday is leg day.
4. How we feel after a 2K:
One would think that rowing for 2,000 meters would be easier than rowing 5,000 meters, but they would be dead wrong. A 2K is like a fast sprint that you never think is going to end. A 5K is much better because it's paced out.
5. When you realize you beat your personal record:
Even if it's one second off or .5 seconds off, you're proud of yourself and you've greatly improved. (Oh, and shout out to my teammates that retook their 2K's and cut down their times, y'all rock!)
6. That moment when your coxswain turns from quiet and shy to a drill sergeant:
They may be small and tiny, but when they are in a boat, you do NOT what to mess with them.
7. When your coach announces a land practice:
This means burpees, long runnings, weight lifting, push ups, crunches, and the hell that is erging. Oh, and let's not forget more blisters on top of the blisters you already have.
8. When someone says they know how to erg, but has never been taught how...then you see them erg for the first time:
Seriously, if you've never rowed before or are a novice, then you don't know how to erg.
9. Three words: Mixed. Boat. Race.
These are the races with a boat of men and women, and I've never done this personally, but I've heard that it's so much fun.
10. Did someone say pasta load?!Before every big race, or any race, rowers eat as much pasta, or carbs, as possible. I have found that this is the best way for a team to bond and have the most fun together without a workout involved.
11. When someone says that rowing is easy:
Honey...go row a proper 2K and then come talk to me.
12. How you feel when practice is going perfectly and someone catches a crab:
Like why you gotta do that?
13. When you get the back splash of every single stroke:
Everyone knows how to control their back splash and sometimes there is that one seat that decides to pretend to not know how.
14. When you attend regattas and scope out all the beautifully sculpted men:
Regattas are the best places to find beautiful people. Don't even try to argue with me on this.
15. When you cross the finish line:
This is the best feeling in the world.
