Things I Could Do If I Weren't So Busy This Summer

The school year at Loyola University New Orleans officially ended on Friday, May 20, 2016. I was going to write this specific article about all the things that I would really miss about the semester and how completely empty/consumed with dread that I'm currently feeling about not having anything to do. However after writing the first line, I instantly remembered that I decided to take 12 credits of non mandatory course work for 8 weeks straight, agreed to do an internship, got a summer job on campus tutoring, am still working for Odyssey, have to complete the reading for my honors thesis (also not mandatory, so I don't know why I'm doing this either) and I have to plan and then execute a retreat for the the organization that I recently became chair of (I'll probably throw in some mentoring and volunteer work here and there, but we shall see how that goes.) Because I apparently hate relaxing and taking a break must be against my religious beliefs, my initial article idea no longer applies. So, here's a list of things that I probably could've done this summer but won't get to do because I'm allergic to free time.

1. Started a tea blog.
I could've made an entire blog about tea. Who knows? This could've been a gateway to a long and fulfilling career of me selling detox teas on Instagram.

2. Started a tea vlog.
What? I really like tea, and sometimes I'm too lazy to write.

3. Followed a daily fitness routine and maybe lose ---
Yeah, that was never going to happen.

4. Learned figure drawing and completed a series of nude self portraits in goofy poses.
Self love and selfies come in many forms, people!

5. Actually read the vast amount of books that I've collected* over the past few years and never got the chance to read yet.
*unnecessarily spent a lot of money on

6. Got a job at a bookstore so I can get a discount and buy more books that I don't have the time to read.
It's okay, I'm an English major (if that's not an excuse, then I don't know what is)

7. Finally write and complete a novel.
I have dreams, you know.

8. Start working on my book of poetry.
I have multiple dreams, you know.

9. Write a hard hitting article filled with dope research for Odyssey for you to read.
*breaks fourth wall*

10. Learn baseball terms so I can actually know what my boyfriend is talking about.
I love you, but it's like Greek to me. Scratch that, I think I may actually understand Greek better than I understand baseball.

Bonus: sleep until 4pm and then stare blankly at the ceiling until I fall asleep again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
