College is a crazy time. We're all just trying to get a degree and not be miserable while doing it. Unfortunately, attempting to do this is harder than most of us anticipated. Between the sleep deprivation, attempts at learning a semester's worth of material in one night, and eating way too many plain bagels, college can be a bit of a mess.
A funny mess in retrospect, though, but a mess nonetheless. Here are 8 skills that you learn in college that seem pretty crazy, but are pretty accurate (and, at times, useful).
1. How to make food in a microwave that you definitely should not be made in a microwave.
Yes, I have made my eggs and bacon in the microwave more times that I'd like to admit.
2. How to turn a 15-minute walk into a 7-minute endeavor.
It's amazing how fast your limbs move when you really need them to.
3. How to sit anywhere with a backpack on.
A desk, the bus, in a hammock - you name it.
4. How to get ready in under 5 minutes.
I have perfected the messy bun with glasses, oversized sweatshirt, leggings, and a bit of eyebrow pencil look into a 3 minute routine. I continue to surprise myself.
5. How to shower and wash your hair in under 5 minutes.
Okay, I don't know if this is just me, but I can't leave in the morning without showering. I just can't. The rest of my day will be off. So, when I have a single digit amount of minutes, I play "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys and tell myself that I need to be out by the end of the song.
The Spotify extended version is 4 minutes and 47 seconds, so I try to be done with washing my body by the first "backstreet's back, alright," with my hair by the dance break, and with brushing my teeth by the end of the song. There's a method to the madness.
6. How to nap in public places.
It's not really the loud floor of the library if at least 2 of the couches aren't being used for napping purposes.
7. How to silently cry during exams.
You'd be surprised how often you'll use this skill.
8. How to become addicted to checking your email.
I told myself I'd never be one of those people, but here I am.
