I write a lot about being a college student, because one of the top things I am thankful for is my ability to be one. I also believe that we all share some sense of unity. Here are some things that every one of us can be thankful for.
1. Access to an education.
Not only do we have libraries, online databases, and professors to be thankful for, we are lucky to simply be able to receive an education.
2. Student discounts
Most stores don't make it super obvious, but many offer great discounts. This is a great list of them, written by a fellow Odyssey writer.
3. You can make friends easily...
Greek life, clubs, class, even just going to the dining hall...all can bring you some of the best friends of your life.
4. ...and they're always nearby.
Even if you all don't live on campus, all your friends will still be close by enough, even if they're commuting to campus.
5. Easier access to career preparation.
Most schools have some sort of career preparation center on campus, but no matter what, internships for college students are plentiful. And you have the ability to try out a couple different majors if you'd like, so you have a better idea of what you're going into as a career.
6. It's one of the best times in life to travel.
In my opinion, everyone should spend some time abroad, and there's no better time to do it than during your college years. You're young, fit, and excited, and you'll learn a lot of life skills to help you along.
7. Learning independence.
Even if you are still living at home during college, you'll still learn a lot of independence through going to school. You're able to set your own schedule, and there aren't any bells that are going to ring to usher you from one class to another. You have to learn how to balance work, school, social life, and everything else more than ever.
8. You're able to do the things that interest you.
Yeah you may think you have "zero" free time, but being in a club or going to classes that pertain to your major counts as doing things that interest you. You don't have to take a bunch of crap you don't care for, like in high school.
9. You can go out on a Thursday night and not be judged.
Yeah, it isn't a great idea if you have class tomorrow, but now is the best time to do it.
