Different sports (and eras of sports) always have someone labeled as the best player. Whether it's based on championships won, statistics or personal achievements, the title of "Best Player" will never stay on just one player forever, but as of right now, these pros have been certainly keeping that title.
According to NFL.com, Quarterback Tom Brady is ranked the best football player so far in the season. The quarterback is the heart and soul of a team; he makes the big decisions during the plays, and he can change something if the defense is set up too well or even poorly. Even at the age of 40, Brady is still having a potential breakout season. In an article for Bleacher Report , when there was only a month remaining in the 2017 season, Brady had amassed 3,632 yards with 26 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He's completed 68.5 percent of his passes and holds a quarterback rating of 109.7. They also compared his 2017 campaign to his best five seasons in his career and statistically speaking, his season right now is almost just as good each season, if not a little better.
Without a doubt, Lebron James is the best basketball player in the world right now. ESPN and Sports Illustrated have both labeled him as the number one player at this time. His physical gifts and his all-around style have certainly made him so. The 2016 NBA Finals was probably one of his best championships ever. The Cleveland Cavaliers were down 3-1 in the finals, yet Lebron manged to lead his team to do the impossible and became the first team in NBA history to win after a 3-1 deficit. It also marked the city's first professional sports title in 52 years. At the start of the 2017 season, his team got off to a slow start, but by the end of this year, the team so far is the third seed within the Eastern Conference.
The best current soccer players in the world are taking charge as some of the most iconic stars in the history of the game. However, the soccer world seems to be stuck on two players who deserve the title as "the best player": Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi's ability to mesmerize defenders with a mix of skill and pace to slip by them is incredible. Messi led his home country, Argentina, to the 2014 World Cup final, losing 1-0 to Germany, and to the finals of the 2015 and 2016 Copa Americas. Ronaldo is considered to be a taller and stronger version of Messi. In 2016, Ronaldo was named FIFA's Player of the Year, his fourth such honor. In fact, he and Messi have been the only two players to win that honor since 2007.
Every sport will have a player that stands above the rest. It's the job of that player to maintain their outstanding playing to maintain their title. The pros have continued to strove for greatness, so the next generation has to make sure to not only surpass that level, but also elevate it.
