These Trying Times: How To Stay Sane in Quarantine

These past two weeks have undoubtedly been two of the hardest weeks of my entire life. I know that sounds so insanely dramatic and entitled but, I wish I was kidding. I am someone who constantly needs to be surrounded by people, which I realize is probably not the best. However, I am who I am. So for someone like me, who really does not like alone time- this is pretty, pretty bad. I love my parents, they're great and are being very kind considering the circumstances. However, I thoroughly believe that once you are past the age of 18, living with your parents is as easy as getting an abundance of toilet paper right now. Honestly, the biggest divide is the lack of their TikTok appreciation and understanding. The following are some tips I have found that make me feel better during these trying times.

Some Tips:

1. There is no normal. I see countless articles and posts saying how important it is to stay "normal". I can see for some people how that would be the best. However, if you don't feel like being "normal" that's okay too. If it makes you feel better to get extra sleep, go on your phone a little more and just relax- then do that. Don't feel like you have to have it all together during this time.

2. Get Outside. I know I sound like every mother in the world, but just take a walk outside and enjoy the fresh air. Put in your airports, listen to the songs you'd be dancing to with your friends and transport yourself.

3. Make Your Room at Home Feel Like Home. Personally, my dorm room feels more like home than my room here. I would trade my full-size bed, 2 closets, and a dresser immediately for a lofted twin bed, one closet and some target storage bins. To make your room more "homey" print out pictures of your college friends, clean out your room of anything you don't need or want. Make your environment as simple as possible.

4. Houseparty. To stay connected with your friend group, go on house party. You can also group facetime, but house party is just better. There are games you can play on house party like trivia and drawing things, to make it more fun.

5. Club Penguin. Yes, club penguin was shut down a few years ago but someone stole the code and recreated the website. Now Club Penguin is full of college students running around in the snow, and it is much more fun when your friends join.

Or you could just spend 12 hours a day on TikTok? Whatever you want.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
