This past week, a group of Christian leaders released a statement that outlined their views and commitments to their faith in regards to moral issues of sexuality, specifically homosexuality and transgenderism. Like most anything these days, the release was quickly headlined on social media and instantly criticized by liberal and left-wing supporters. No surprise there, of course, but what did alarm me was the increasingly dangerous lack of tolerance that the self-proclaimed "tolerant" left has continued to pile on to their crazy bandwagon.
Because the Nashville Statement was written by those who base their core beliefs on the Bible, it would make sense that all 14 articles of the statement be likewise founded on Scripture. The coalition addresses homosexuality as sinful and marriage as the union between one and one woman. It also refuses to support those who are transgender, affirming that God made man and woman separate, each unique and special in their creation for human good.
How dare they, say the liberals. Pure evil, screams the left. Send them to straight to hell, cries the LGBTQ community. Love, not hate!!!
Religion exists. It thrives in various forms: Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Gnosticism, Hinduism, etc. Everyone believes in something, whether it be Allah, God, or a big bang that created this massive sphere called Earth. The fact of the matter is that we all have a right to hold beliefs. Along with the right to believe comes the right to speak. Although it has become unclear as to what can be spoken freely in the United States lately, this clear Constitutional freedom of speech is directly conjoined with a Christian's right to believe in God and what the Bible teaches.
The articles in the Nashville Statement should not be unusual to Christians; in fact, it should be supported by them because of it's direct ties to Scripture. In contrast, those who don't hold to Christian beliefs would naturally disagree with the words in this "controversial" statement. Liberal ideologies obviously also don't line up with the Bible, so it once again makes sense that they would find the 14 articles to be contradictory.
But that's not the problem. We can all agree to disagree and move on with our lives; it's fairly simple. The problem is that liberals just cannot and will not agree to disagree. They have to tweet, fight, protest, and scream. Below are just a few examples of the liberal outcry to the Nashville Statement:
For a group of people who demand complete equality and tolerance, they aren't very tolerant, are they? The Nashville Statement does not once even use the word "hate." It does not claim to divide, exclude, or fail to love. It states simple beliefs that are purely based on Scripture, nothing more. Every religion has values, doctrine, theology, and principles. What was displayed through the Nashville Statement was nothing more than a public display of a very firm Christian stance on marriage. It didn't form opinions or new ideas; rather instead, it founded itself upon beliefs that are firmly rooted in the heart of the Christian faith.
Liberals, leftists, and LGBTQ communities are full of division. They're constantly hating and excluding. If you don't believe what they do, there's a "vip list when you all get to hell." If anything, the responses to the Nashville Statement are just another perfect example of the zero-tolerance policy that is rapidly growing in this culture. They will crumple up the statement and burn it, and it's somehow okay. I wonder what would happen if I tweeted about burning an LGBTQ flag. What response would I get if I said, "gays are all assholes." How about if I said that homosexuals are being held a special place in hell?
I would be demolished. Ridiculed. Threatened. Hated.
There's nothing wrong with the Nashville Statement. It's a product of the right to practice religion and speak freely, and that is all. If people can't handle it, they should stay off the Internet for the rest of their lives, because it's impossible for everyone to agree on everything, and nothing can change that.
