Music has progressed so much over time. As we experiment with new sounds and possibilities, it becomes natural for music to change. The very nature of the field creates opportunities for new attitudes, and it leads to creative minds working together to make a special entity. These people can imprint the character of their work onto each decade, and this results in every period of time having interesting aspects to offer. Certain eras are rife for imagination and creativity, and no decade exemplifies this better than the 1960s.

The innovations of the decade were immense to an extreme degree. It seemed as though there were artists that were changing the rules of music around every corner, as they constantly found ways to subvert what music could be. Artists such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd specialized in creating vivid music that took the listener to absurd dimensions, whereas The Stooges and The Sonics brought a stripped down aesthetic that was instrumental in the development of punk rock. Blue Cheer and Led Zeppelin distorted their guitars with such force that they foreshadowed heavy metal, and the musings of Bob Dylan and Van Morrison infused intelligent elements in their lyrics. The Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa utilized dissonance and free jazz, and The Byrds pioneered folk rock.

Rock music came into its own, as well. Various bands used rock music as a way to express their own views of the world, and they proved that the genre could be a phenomenon to be reckoned with. From experimenting with time signatures to incorporating classical music influences, numerous groups turned rock music into an enigma. They used guitars and drums to accomplish tasks that were astounding in their complexity, and these bands had an artistry that bordered on the surreal. The genre truly realized its potential in the 1960s, and the bands of that decade wrenched out the brilliance that was contained in rock music.

The 1960s were home to memorable albums, as well. The noteworthy albums that the decade had were practically endless, and they played a huge role in moving music forward. The decade was full of classics, ranging from popular efforts to obscure ones that were just as essential. These efforts demonstrated the fearlessness that was contained in the 1960s, and they were amazing experiences that showed the immense talents of its musicians. The 1960s contained albums that were full of surprises and new ideas, and they inspired listeners with the imagery that was developed. The era had albums that were the best of their genre, and they created ideals that are still followed today.

The 1960s were a decade that defied conventionality at every turn. The innovations were awe-inspiring, as they were an explosion of risks that re-wrote the rule books of music. The freedom of the decade manifested itself in the sensational progression of rock music, as the genre matured into a magnificent force that expanded beyond simplistic structures. The albums that came out were undeniable expressions of the decade's flexibility, and they inspired listeners with the standards they created. The 1960s were a superb decade for music, and it exemplified ingenuity and cleverness.
