Bookstore Guide

Walking into a bookstore is one of those magical kid in a candy store moments for writers everywhere. The shelves nicely lined with books that are older than many people who walk into the store. Tables and racks are stacked with on sale items, used books and the freshly printed ones all in their separate corners. The elevator music welcomes you but slowly drifts away as you run your fingers over each spine. The thousands of stories are at your fingertips, thousands of thoughts and opinions waiting to be opened and shared. There are many of those who take coming into a bookstore for granted, they walk by stories and lives of people whom they have never met and do not care to meet. However, for those who understand the pure loveliness of a bookstore there is so much to learn. As a writer walking through the shelves and rows of books is calming, hearing a thousand different stories each important to another. It is the dream that many of us strive for and with that in mind, it is the place where we hope to be some day. There is nothing not to love about a book, the perfectly drawn and printed cover, the endless pages that transport you into their truths, and the smell when you open a new book. The one that takes you to an island in the middle of nowhere or deep into the sea. Each created with a special kind of care, the time it takes to produce a story with characters of all backgrounds, each with their own past, present and future. There is a certain love that the writers take and put into those characters the sort of love that many of us search for throughout our entire lives. The amount of time, effort and dedication that is put into a book is one that cannot be described within a few short sentences. The love that I have for a bookstore can be, for me I cannot wait to enter into a bookstore, and be filled with a world of choices of places to travel. There are endless possibilities and more being created each and everyday. I for one cannot be thankful enough that I get to read these stories, and join the well developed characters on their paths, no matter what they may be as well as I cannot wait to read more that has yet to be created.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
