For my latest project for my painting class at Lindsey Wilson College, I was assigned to paint something on 2 canvases that are complete opposites of each other, yet relate somehow. I chose to paint a flower. On the left canvas, I drew half of the flower, and plan on painting it and the background in dark, cool, depressing colors. On the right canvas, I drew the second half of the flower. I plan on painting it and its background in bright, warm, feel-good colors.
Why does this assignment matter so much? Well, I personally feel like this assignment represents life. Life is a beautiful thing, much like a flower. But life is also known for having both good and bad moments in it, like the dark and warm colors represented in the painting.
I think the key to life is deciding what side you stand on from the beginning. You can either be an optimist and choose to see something good in every part of life, or you can be a pessimist and choose to be miserable all the time. This painting proves that, ultimately, it’s your call to make. What side will you choose?
