The Undying Force Of Social Media: Will it Last Forever?

It's 2017, and this is also another action-packed year with more innovation and societal advancement! Social networking sites are progressing very rapidly as people install new apps and icons that are very appealing to the eye. This ongoing fascination towards social networking sites serves as a major temptation towards checking it several times throughout the day. It has now become something that is second nature, and we end up finding it very difficult to resist the allurement of it.

The constant surfing of social media and the continuity of text messages tremendously limits the amount of facial social contact that we used to regularly have with our loved ones. Modern society is heavily engrossed in texting that it has now become increasingly difficult to even talk about important issues verbally.

Fewer interactions with close family and friends can also lead to many psychological and social drawbacks. This can involuntarily lead to a person becoming extremely isolated in the environment, which has a very high chance of giving rise to the mental illness of depression. Therefore, people in society should always strive to actively communicate and interact with people on a regular basis as it truly does form a highly enriched way of life.

Back when there were no smartphones, Facebook, or other social networking sites, people would often communicate by diligently writing letters and sending it to their dear ones or professional contacts. Talking on the phone was an immense method of communication in those days. Unlike today, people would be highly engrossed in communicating face-to-face or via the telephone. In today’s society, face-to-face communication is extremely scarce and phone calls are replaced with the power of text messaging.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
