OK. I'm all for a fun night out, going on crazy adventures with my friends and having the kind of night you can tell funny stories about in the future. But, to be honest, as I'm getting older (I don't want to talk about it, OK, wrinkles are a myth) some of the best nights my friends and I have had are when we have a GNI -- or girls' night in.
Those nights are the ones that really stick with you over the years, that you can tell at your best friend's wedding one day or laugh about when you're old grannies causing trouble (I'm a sap, I know). So call up your gal pals, it's time to party! (It's really not as lame as I just sounded, I promise...)
Movies:
A classic go-to for me and my friends for a GNI is a good movie. For those of you who love a chick flick, here are 25 of my faves to get you started! They are in no particular order (because how could you possibly rate classics like these??), and seriously, the list could go on and on!
- “The Princess Bride” (If you haven’t seen this, I’m not sure I can trust the life choices you are making)
- “The Proposal” (Time to do a spiritual dance to “Get Low”)
- “Miss Congeniality”
- “A Cinderella Story” (Because anyone in their right mind loves Hillary Duff.)
- “The Princess Diaries” (I definitely just got up and put this movie in while writing this article)
- “She’s the Man” (YES. Just yes.)
- “Legally Blonde”
- “10 Things I Hate About You”
- “Crazy, Stupid, Love” (Excuse me while I drool over Ryan Gosling...)
- “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”
- “Mean Girls” (We still wear pink on Wednesdays)
- 12. “Ever After”
- “13 Going on 30”
- “Clueless”
- “Pretty Woman”
- “The Devil Wears Prada”
- “Sweet Home Alabama”
- “The Parent Trap” (The ultimate inspiration for cool handshakes and clever schemes)
- “Pitch Perfect”
- “P.S. I Love You” (Cry-fest, anyone?)
- “The Notebook” (More tissues, please.)
- “The Lucky One”
- “The Longest Ride”
- “Bride Wars”
- “A Walk to Remember” (Nicholas Sparks just likes to make us cry, doesn’t he?)
Board games:
OK, take back that eye roll. Board games can be super fun, especially if you have a group of at least four or five. A throwback to your childhood, a little competition and side-cramp-inducing laughter is pretty much a guarantee! Here are some fun ones!
- Puzzles (puzzle and wine nights are my jam)
- Cards Against Humanity
- Mad Gab or Watch Ya’ Mouth
- Sorry
- A variation of Uno
- Jenga
- Farkle
- Smart Ass
Food:
For us, we tend to stick to the easy, prepackaged yumminess like Oreos, chips, popcorn, etc. But if you want to try some fun recipes, check these out:
Grab some pretzels, graham crackers, fruit, marshmallows and whatever else your little heart desires for dipping, and you are good to go!
2. Puppy Chow
There are so many different kinds to try, so take your pick!
This one takes a little more time, but come on. I mean, soft pretzels? Uh, YES.
4. Fun Popcorn
OK, my mouth is watering. Great.
5. Fruit & Yummy Dip
Because you just can't go wrong with this!
Drinks:
Trying fun drinks is a must! They don’t have to be alcoholic, either — there are a ridiculous number of fun drink recipes (hello, Pinterest!). Or, if you’re over 21, trying different cocktails can be fun. If you’re like me, the sweeter, the better!
The best part about girls’ night in, though? No makeup. No fixing your hair. And yes, pajamas are required.
