It's Saturday night and my boyfriend takes me to the movies. We've been waiting to see the remake of Stephen King's novel, "IT" for months, ever since the trailer was released. We had heard it really was scary and were excited to check it out. But after the opening scene, where the main character, Bill's seven-year-old brother, Georgie is pulled into a sewer on a rainy day and brutally killed by the movie's villain, Pennywise the Clown, all I could think about was that even though this story wasn't real, many horrifying kidnappings are. Many kids are lost to unimaginable pain and fear. That thought stuck with me throughout the movie, and I ended up being more sad than scared.

Since 1971, six children in Maine have been reported missing and never found. From the most infamous 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds to a 3-year-old Douglas Chapman who was last seen playing in the sandbox in his family's front yard 46 years ago. For these families, the pain is all too real.

Byron Horman was reported missing in 2010 in Portland, Oregon after giving a second-grade presentation on frogs. Asha Degree left home at 4 a.m. with a packed backpack on Valentine's Day 2000, she was nine. Several people reported seeing her walking down the highway but none stopped to check on her. 18 months later, her backpack was found wrapped in trash bags 26 miles from her home. 5-month-old Sabrina Aisenberg vanished from her crib in 1997, she was never found. She would be 20 today (ABC News.)

For the families of these missing kids, the pain is not knowing. Peggy Kleeschult's son Scott disappeared when he was nine. She has suffered his loss for 29 years now. Todd Frankel writes about her, "She has suffered a quarter-century of worry and fear. Time has not dulled it. She still chokes up when talking about him. She still can’t bear to keep pictures of him up in her home, the same house on Leverenz Street where she and her husband raised Scott and his four siblings. She still thinks about him all the time," says Frankel.

At the end of Stephen Kings "IT," kids that Pennywise had kidnapped are seen floating in the air at the bottom of the sewer, we can only assume awaiting to be eaten by the clown himself. When our heroines defeat the clown, the kids are free to float back down. While many children that are abducted in America are found without the first 24 to 48 hours, some remain missing. "IT" was a fantastically produced film that both my boyfriend and I enjoyed a lot, but it left me with an eerie reminder, some kids don't float down.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
