The: an article. Usually used to address a specific object, place, and so on.
True: the opposite of “False”.What we see, and what we believe as facts, correct, and real.
Freedom: to be wherever you want. To do whatever you want.
Of: a preposition that is used to express the relationship between a part and a whole.
Speech: words from any language that form a meaning when aggregated.
These words have different meanings based on one’s perspective. For some, the specific definitions written above are the first ones that come to mind. For me, I thought the Freedom of Speech meant having the right to say whatever I want without having to question if the environment I’m around would accept what I have to say.
Freedom of speech means that my opinion is valid. People that advocate the freedom of speech would respect my opinion because freedom in its essence is having the power to do.
Based on these conceptions, I was surrounded by some people that claim that they don’t have the freedom of speech and that their voices are not equally heard when compared to other countries that promote citizens to be vocal about opinions. I am no exception form that group; I believed that myself until I got introduced to a word that made me question the reality of the situation.
Liberalism:
This revered word in many elite communities. A liberal person is one that is mainly concerned with broadening a person's general knowledge and experience. To liberal, is to be open minded.
For some reason, when first hearing this word, I associated it with understanding, and making one’s mind actually open to new ideas, but it seemed that what it really meant was getting rid of old ideas, and this is what confused, if not even bothered me the most.
If the concept of freedom you claim you are looking for advocates speaking up, why does speaking up almost always connect to condescending old beliefs, and perspectives.
Why does the word Liberal look like it represents justice when it is actually very bias toward particular ideas and very condescending on other ones?
I am by no means against this act. It exists because it is an important concept in the development and growth of countries, but my question is, how do you want me to be free when my freedom of speech includes stating that I feel comfortable with my actual old and to some orthodox ideas.
Because I thought the Freedom of Speech meant that I have the right to be both respected and accepted based on who I am.
But also because, unfortunately, what I see is that the True Freedom of Speech actually means to be a supporter of what is just known to be liberal.
