We have rung in the new year of 2018 and now is the time for a change even if it is just a minor one. I have decided that 2018 will be the year that I actually make a change for myself and not for others; The Year of Me. Here are my top 5 changes and goals I hope to accomplish in order to better myself for the new year.

1. Be Selfish For Once In My Life

No, I don’t mean not caring for others at all and just think about myself all the time. I just need to start thinking more about what I want instead of what others want from me. It’s nice to help others and I LOVE to help, but people can take advantage of that aspect. It’s time that I actually say no sometimes and just do something for me instead of what other people expect me to do.

2. Take Each Day In Stride

I worry a lot and a lot of that worrying comes from thinking too far ahead in the future. I think about any possible situation that could happen in the next two days and stress about it even though it may not even happen. Worrying can be good in some cases, but I worry consistently. I need to focus on just that current day and not worry about what will happen in the future; just take each day as it comes. I should be enjoying each day, not worrying about what will come in the next one.

3. Study, Study, Study

Studying can be hard especially if you have the attention span of a squirrel like me. I’ll be studying hardcore one moment and then the next thing you know I’m thinking about what Spongebob would be like if he were a circle sponge instead of a square sponge the whole series. I need to work on how to concentrate and work on developing some new studying skills.

4. A Healthier Me

I’m not really big on that whole new thing called “exercise,” but I really need to give it a shot. I have been getting sick a lot more frequently lately and lacking energy. I need to put myself to work for a healthier me. I might hit the gym once a week starting out (and no I don’t mean just slapping the side of the building) and then build up from there. I might even get some muscles or some kind of miracle like that.

5. Be A More Organized Human Being

Organization and I have not been getting along these past few years. I just stretch myself too thin with all these activities that I forget what I’m actually supposed to be doing some days. Sometimes I totally forget about assignments or when the next day I work is. This year I’m determined to improve my relationship with organization to the max. I even got a cute 2018 planner already, so might as well go all the way with this whole organized lifestyle.

I want 2018 to be the best year for me. This is my year and I’m going to rock it. I hope most of you will do the same as you go into 2018. Think more of you and not what others want you to do. Take charge of your own life and charge out the others that don’t like it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
