The Tomi Lahren Suspension: Hypocrisy In The Making

Oh how the tables have turned on the Republican Party.

If any of you are like me and spend at least a good hour of your day on Facebook, you've probably seen some videos of a certain young, blond woman by the name of Tomi Lahren yelling about her conservative views. Tomi is one of the fastest young voices in politics today thanks to her talk show on The Blaze, a prominent conservative multimedia network created by Glenn Beck. Hired in 2015, Lahren is known for "famously taking on the left" on her show and also had a heated debate with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show. I will leave it to your own discretion if you would like to watch that debate.

However, the reason that Lahren is now making headlines is because she recently made comments on The View saying she is pro-choice. She explained herself saying that since she is for limited government, she would be a hypocrite if she also said that the government should determine what is best women's bodies. Since making these comments, she has been criticized by many conservatives including Glenn Beck, who tweeted that he was against her "libertarian" views. Since making these comments, there have been many reports saying that her show on The Blaze has been suspended for at least at week.

Now, I am not the biggest fan of Tomi Lahren. In fact, almost everything she says cause me to roll my eyes and scoff to myself. I would rather watch The Young Turks mock and question her views than sit through her show. But, the fact that she is being suspended from her show is plain hypocrisy in the making. This is because Glen Beck himself has made comments in an interview stating that he hires people who have different views than him on purpose. If this is the case, then Glen Beck is just tripping over his own words by suspending Lahren.

In no way am I saying that liberals haven't done the exact same thing. Milo Yiannopoulos being banned from Twitter is a great example of this. What I am saying, though, is that conservatives can't sit here and criticize liberals for harassing an alt-right figure and then do the same thing to one of their own. An important thing to consider is that there is a good portion of Democrats that are against abortion and a portion of Republicans that are for abortion. If you are to silence one person who has a different view on a single issue, then you would have to silence every single person who disagreed with you.

Like it or not, free speech is a right in America. Sure, we may disagree with one another on a lot of controversial issues, but that just means we are free to discuss and debate with one another on these important topics. Something I admired about Tomi was that while I disagreed with almost everything she mentioned on her show, she represented a new generation of young people who are looking to find their voice in the lucrative world of politics. One thing is certain, though- I find myself liking Tomi a little bit more. Emphasis on the little.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
