Memory is Life's
Time machine.
An accumulation for
Every past version
Of yourself, your enemies,
Your loved ones, your strangers.
Each of them perfect and malleable.
Even the event
Can be visited and altered
Just as you like it.
The historical inaccuracies,
Absenses where slavery, genocide, and rape
Are left out of the books.
We speak loudest in the ways we don't speak.
In all the ways we never tell the story properly.
We tell it in every way we hide the truth.
In the way ignorance seeps from poisoned mouths
From polluted minds. Time travelers who change the past.
In the way we lie ourselves into loving one another.
How you, yourself will not look in the facing mirrors.
There's a reason the person you are is not the person you were.
You go back and you assassinate yourself.
There's something powerful enough
Inside the gray matter
That changes who histories,
Destroys personalities,
Creates diverging lifelines.
